A state librarian has been arrested for allegedly sending explicit messages and photos to an undercover deputy posing as a child on a messaging app.
Clive police told KCCI that Michael L. Scott, of Clive, was arrested at the state library Thursday.
According to court documents, the 53-year-old Scott sent graphic messages to an Orange County (Florida) Sheriff's Office deputy who was posing as a 14-year-old boy on the app Kik Messenger.
In those messages, court documents say Scott sent multiple explicit images and videos despite the victim repeatedly telling Scott he was 14.
"In this day and age, with technology being so ingrained in everyday life, you never really know who is on the other end of an app like this," Clive Police Chief Mark Rehberg said in a news release. "In this case, it was an undercover deputy, but in many instances, the victims are young children, and these contacts can lead to more serious offenses."
Rehberg encouraged parents to "check in with their kids, see what type of apps they are using, and make sure they are making appropriate decisions to stay safe in digital spaces."
Scott faces multiple counts of dissemination and exhibition of obscene material to a minor.
