Google will unpause its ban on political and election ads in the US that it set into place after the polls closed on November 5, 2024. Google will lift the temporary restrictions on ads relating to the US elections on Monday, November 11, 2024.
It is important to note that any ads you had running that were automatically paused will automatically resume on Monday.
What Google wrote. Google wrote on its policy site:
"On November 11, 2024, Google will update the Political Content policy to lift the temporary restrictions on ads relating to the US elections as follows:
We will remove the restrictions on ads relating to US elections serving in the US which started after the last polls closed on election day, November 5th, 2024. This includes US Election Ads as well as ads that refer to US elections, their processes or outcomes.
Please note, ads that were restricted from serving in the US due to the pause will automatically resume serving."
More Details:
Pause began: After polls close on Nov. 5, 2024. Pause ends: Monday, November 11, 2024. Affected: All ads relating to U.S. elections, their processes, or outcomes. Included: U.S. election ads and broader election-related content.
Why we care. This update directly affected the ability to promote election-related content immediately after polls close in November.
Now that we know the pause is being lifted on Monday, you can resume or reassess any political-based ads impacted by this pause starting next week.
It might make sense to double check to ensure any ads that were automatically paused by Google should resume Monday, when Google automatically unpauses those ads.
