New data center coming to Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) - Montgomery now has a new investor for digital infrastructure in Atlanta-based company DC Blox, which will be building a large-scale data center worth around $30 million.

"If you look at the tremendous growth in Montgomery over the past two years really, you see this emerging footprint around the inland port, the logistics hub, what we call the I-65 triangle of just more and more reinvestment in the city of Montgomery, and DC Blox is our latest addition," said Montgomery Chamber of Commerce President Anna Buckalew.

The data center will be located at the Interstate Industrial Park right off the Hope Hull exit on Interstate 65, and it's expected to start being built in June 2025.

The Montgomery Chamber of Commerce sees it as a continuation of positive momentum following another large digital investment in the city.

"A real sign that Meta's landing in Montgomery earlier this year, which was one of the chamber's signature projects in conjunction with the city, the county and the state of Alabama, is leading to even bigger and bolder things for the area," Buckalew said.

Mayor Steven Reed gave a statement on the project that states, "DC BLOX's decision to establish an advanced data center here not only strengthens our digital infrastructure but also signals Montgomery's rising prominence as a hub for innovation and investment in the Southeast. This project represents new opportunities for our workforce, bolsters our regional economy, and underscores our commitment to fostering growth in technology and connectivity. We are excited about the possibilities this brings for our city and look forward to a long-term partnership with DC BLOX."

At first, the facility will support 5 megawatts for an initial customer, but it has the potential to expand to a 40-megawatt facility.

DC Blox also announced a new data center in the works for Huntsville, which would be its second facility there. It also has a data center in Birmingham, plus a presence across four other Southeastern states.
