Jane's Addiction apologizes to fans for band's onstage fight, cancels show on reunion tour

The band posted a message Saturday night to its Instagram stories acknowledging the onstage fracas at a recent show.

"We want to extend a heartfelt apology to our fans for the events that unfolded last night," the message said.

At a Sept. 13 show in Boston, an aggressive Farrell struck guitarist Dave Navarro during a performance of the song "Ocean Size" (see video below).

Navarro, 57, stopped playing and appeared to try to calm the agitated singer, but Farrell, 65, punched him.

Bassist Eric Avery and members of the show's crew then restrained Farrell and walked him offstage. The moment was captured in various fan videos posted to social media after the concert, which ended early at Boston's Leader Bank Pavilion.

Jane's Addiction is currently in the middle of a reunion tour. The band played Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City Sept. 7.

But Farrell's outburst has the group changing its plans.

"As a result we will be canceling tomorrow night's show in Bridgeport," the band said in the Instagram post, directing fans to obtain refunds at their point of purchase.

However, there are still many shows scheduled on the tour after the Sunday (Sept. 15) date at Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Jane's Addiction is supposed to play Toronto Sept. 18; Rochester Hills, Michigan Sept. 20; Milwaukee Sept. 22; Chicago Sept. 24; Indianapolis Sept. 26; and then more concerts in Alabama, Missouri, Colorado, Utah, Washington, Oregon, Nevada and California through mid-October.

So far, the band has not canceled any of those dates.

The tour, with the band Love and Rockets, has reunited the band's classic lineup -- Farrell, Navarro, Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins -- for the first time in 14 years.

Alt-rockers Farrell and Avery founded Jane's Addiction in Los Angeles in 1985.

The group's 1988 debut album, "Nothing's Shocking," was nominated for a Grammy.

Farrell is also known for also for founding the Lollapalooza music festival in 1991 the band Porno for Pyros, with Perkins, in 1992, following the breakup of Jane's Addiction, which would reform with different members over the years.
