Girl, 12, identified in fatal south Bakersfield crash, driver suspected of DUI

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) -- The 12-year-old girl killed in a crash last Friday night was identified as Anabel Marie Ramirez, of Bakersfield.

According to the Kern County coroner, at around 7:24 p.m., Anabel was a passenger in a Honda when it was struck by a driver of a Chevrolet at the intersection of South Union Avenue and Hosking Avenue. The driver who struck the car that Anabel and an 11-year-old boy were in was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Anabel was taken to Kern Medical where she later died.

The 11-year-old was severely injured. His condition is unknown at this time.

Excessive speed and alcohol were suspected factors said Bakersfield police.

An investigation by BPD revealed the driver of the Chevrolet was driving northbound on S. Union Avenue and the driver of the Honda was making a left turn into northbound lanes when the crash happened.

The BPD determined the driver of the Chevrolet was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and arrested him for charges relating to DUI, reckless driving, and gross vehicular manslaughter. His identity was not released by police at this time.
