William "Bill" Howard Day, Jr., 78, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on March 12, 2025.

Bill passed away peacefully in his home after a long battle with cancer. He was born on May 23, 1946, to the late William and Mildred Day. He was a beloved husband, father and Papaw, known for his unwavering passion, competitive spirit and dedication to his family.

A passionate golf lover, Bill enjoyed being a member at Valleybrook Golf and Country Club. He earned several impressive hole-in-ones throughout his years on the course.

Bill was an influential baseball and softball coach, sharing his knowledge of the game and his competitive spirit with young athletes for many years. His commitment to the game and his players went beyond strategy and technique; he instilled in them the values of hard work, teamwork and perseverance. His coaching legacy continues to live on in the players he mentored, many of whom credit him with teaching them lessons that lasted far beyond the field.

In his professional life, Bill was a respected electrician and a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 175. He took great pride in his work and was known for his skill, reliability and dedication.

Above all, Bill cherished his family. He was married to his loving wife, Jackie, for 58 years, and together they created a life full of cherished memories. Bill enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, always sharing his love of good food and great company.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and brother, Randy Day. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Jackie Day; children: Billy (Tina) Day, Michelle (Josh) Wilson; grandchildren: Austin Day, Parker Wilson, Brenan Wilson, Dalton (Riley) Payne, Spencer Smith, Carson Smith; siblings: Mike (Donna) Day; extended family members and friends.

Bill will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 17, at Hamilton Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. and continue Tuesday, March 18, from 11 a.m. until funeral service time at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens South, 325 Green Lake Road, Rossville, Ga. 30741.
