The "College GameDay" crew is set for their first appearance in Columbus, Ohio, this season, and while it took until Week 13 for it to happen, the excitement is palpable. The anticipation for the massive Big Ten clash between the No. 5 Indiana Hoosiers and No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes is already building, and the energy is electric.
Ahead of the show, Kirk Herbstreit made a special appearance on "SportsCenter", where he stole the show -- not with his analysis, but with the surprise cameo of his dog, Peter. When asked about him, Herbstreit happily introduced his new companion, who was right by his side.
In recent weeks, Herbstreit has been coping with the loss of his beloved golden retriever, Ben, a fan favorite who had become a staple of "College GameDay" this season. Since then, it seems that Peter is stepping into Ben's role, quickly winning over the hearts of fans and continuing to carry on the legacy of the much-loved dog.
"Peter is ready for @CollegeGameDay in Columbus!" Herbstreit posted.
The video of Kirk Herbstreit and his dog, Peter, was also shared across College GameDay's social media platforms, spreading positivity.
Both Ben and Peter have quickly become beloved members of the "GameDay" crew, and fans have embraced them just as much as they have Kirk himself. The moment was a heartwarming addition to the pregame atmosphere, further endearing Herbstreit and his dogs to the college football community.
Herbstreit, an Ohio State alumnus, played for the Buckeyes from 1989 to 1992, serving as the backup quarterback for much of his time at the university.
He did however, earn a Bachelor's degree and deepened his ties to the school. Those ties to Ohio and Ohio State are still a major part of Herbstreit's identity, and now, with Peter by his side, the dog is getting his very first taste of Columbus, Ohio -- the heart of Buckeye Nation.
