Special to the Record & Landmark

Handcrafted Curiosities is a boutique that features handmade merchandise in North Carolina.

"There is nothing here from China," said owner Leigh Pack.

Pack started Handcrafted Curiosities in early September after working with the CVCC Small Business Center. Pack began working with Alexander County Economic Development to open her business in Alexander County.

The store, located at 926 N.C. Highway 90 East in Taylorsville, will hold a grand opening on Nov. 8.

Handcrafted Curiosities offers clothing from Next Level Custom Apparel and Sparkle Shirt Company as well as items from N.C. artisans. Unique items are found in the shop, including vases and jewelry from DJ's Fluid Art of Charlotte, Niecy's Pieces jewelry, plus tumblers, hats, 3-D-printed articulated animals, and accessories for tabletop gaming from Convixxion, 100% alpaca dryer balls from Oasis Mini Farm, and diffuser bracelets for essential oils created by Jackson Jain.

Pack said the shop offers a creative paint room where she hosts classes and paint parties for all ages. Her talents are found on the floor of the shop where she has painted Bible scriptures entwined in a flower pattern.

Born and bred in Charlotte, Pack and her family moved to Alexander County 10 years ago.

"I immediately fell in love with the different pace of life compared with the Charlotte area," said Pack. "I'm excited to offer Alexander County a new way to shop. Everything we sell has been hand-created in some way by crafters and artisans from our own state."

Handcrafted Curiosities is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call or text 704-718-7339.
