HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - A 22-year-old driver has died and a 2-year-old was hospitalized after a drive-by shooting in Hartford.
They say the homicide occurred in the area of Pleasant Street at Main Street at around 4:18 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers located evidence of gunfire and a car with heavy gunfire damage.
The driver and 2-year-old boy were stopped at a traffic light on Pleasant Street when a car pulled up next to them and began shooting.
The driver, identified as Dayvon Comeaux, of Hartford, was unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds.
The shots were fired just outside Dunkin Park and a prep school.
"A lot of shell casings. Very brazen in daylight with rush hour happening downtown. Very brazen," said Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert.
The man driving the car was taken to the hospital where he later died.
The 2-year-old boy in the backseat was unharmed, although a bullet hole was inches from his head.
"It looks like the bullet hole that almost struck the infant went through the back of the car. Again, thank god the infant wasn't struck," Boisvert said.
The boy was transported to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center for observation.
It was determined that the child was the victim's son.
The suspect who fired the shots fled the scene. Police are actively looking to track down the alleged shooter.
The suspect's vehicle was located shortly after the homicide in Torrington.
The Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions responded to handle the investigation.
Police say they are working to pull surveillance video from the area.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the police at 860-722-8477.
This is the city's 16th homicide this year. This time last year, Hartford had over 30 homicides.
