Hike Bella Vista

Ozark Hill Hikers invite all to join a walk Wednesday in Bella Vista. Registration is from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the CVS pharmacy, 2833 Bella Vista Way. There is a fee of $4 for all walkers.

Walkers will choose either a 5- or 10-kilometer route. Each follows trails through Blowing Springs Park, Sugar Creek Soccer Park and Veterans Wall of Honor.

Membership in the Ozark Hill Hikers is $12 per year prorated $1 for each month remaining in the calendar year. For more information, email [email protected] or call (479) 381-9366.

See birds at Lake Fayetteville

Northwest Arkansas Audubon Society will host a birding field trip at 9 a.m. Saturday at Lake Fayetteville to view autumn waterfowl at the lake. Meet at the Lake Fayetteville trailhead south of Botanical Garden of the Ozarks, 4607 Crossover Road, in Fayetteville. The trip is an easy walk of around two miles.

Audubon membership is not required to attend. Participants are asked to register at [email protected] with trip name, your name and the number attending so leaders will know how many to expect.

Apply for youth grants

The Ozark Society is accepting applications for Youth Engagement Grants from nonprofit organizations and schools with projects. Projects must involve elementary or secondary school-aged youth in hands-on conservation activities or environmental engagement. Applications for up to $3,000 will be accepted until Jan. 31.

Be a better shot

Rifle marksmanship fundamentals will be taught from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 3-5 at the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center in Springdale. Students must attend all three sessions. It's designed for new shooters who want to improve accuracy. Students will learn to shoot sitting, kneeling, off-hand or prone. All equipment is provided. The class is recommended for ages 16 and older. It's free, but registration is required. Visit register-ed.com/programs/arkansas to sign up. Hike two trails

Hill 'n Dale Hiking Club will hike the Sunset Vista and Sick-A-More Trails in Bella Vista on Dec. 4. Hike distance is 3.6 miles. All hikers are welcome. Interested hikers should email [email protected] for more details. Club information is available at bvhikingclub.com.

Park deer season near

A permit-only modern gun deer season will be Dec. 13-16 at Hobbs State Park-Conservation Area. Most trails will be closed during the hunt. Hobbs is Arkansas' largest state park and the only one that allows limited hunting.

Take hunter education

Hunter education will be taught from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 14 at the J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center in Springdale. Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1969 must complete a hunter education course and carry a hunter education card to hunt in Arkansas. The class is free, but registration is required. Hike with a guide

Guided hikes at the Ozark Natural Science Center in Madison County will be held at 9 a.m. the first Saturday of each month through December. Guided hikes at the center's Lake Fayetteville location are the third Saturday of each month. Hikes are with the center's teacher naturalists. Hikes are by donation. Registration is required.
