All street metered parking spaces in shopping districts throughout Buffalo will be free on Black Friday, Nov. 29, and Small Business Saturday, Nov. 30.

Locally owned stores are pulling out all the stops to attract customers who may otherwise be lured in by the convenience of major retailers and online shopping.

The move to relax enforcement at on-street parking meters was made to help Buffalo's small businesses get a jump start on the holiday shopping season and to encourage people to shop in Buffalo, said Buffalo Acting Mayor Christopher P. Scanlon.

"Buffalo is home to so many amazing small businesses across our city," Scanlon said. "By relaxing parking enforcement on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, we want to encourage everyone to shop, dine, and explore locally while supporting our local entrepreneurs and visiting neighborhoods across the city."

There are several dozen identified shopping districts in neighborhoods citywide. More information and a map of Buffalo shopping districts can be found at www.buffalony.gov.
