Ashlyn Watkins returns to practice after charges dismissed, USC WBB says

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The University of South Carolina's women's basketball team (USC) announced Wednesday that Ashlyn Watkins is returning to team activities after charges against her were dismissed.

Watkins was charged with assault and kidnapping back in August and was suspended from the women's basketball team. She also did not travel to the White House in September when President Biden hosted the team to honor their national championship win.

Warrants from USC campus police department said that video captured a assault between Watkins and her girlfriend, who was a juvenile.

Authorities said Watkins' assault charge was dismissed after she completed pre-trial intervention for first-time offenders, and the Solicitor's Office declined to prosecute the kidnapping charge.

The junior forward will be resuming participating beginning with Wednesday practice.

WIS News 10 has also reached out to Watkins' attorney, Rep. Todd Rutherford, for comment on her charges being dismissed, and is waiting to hear back.
