Former Detroit Lions third-round pick signs with Arizona Cardinals

DETROIT -- The Arizona Cardinals are promoting Julian Okwara, a former third-round pick of the Detroit Lions, to their active roster.

Okwara landed with Arizona's practice squad after failing to make the main roster after a stint with the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent the previous four seasons with the Lions, playing out his rookie contract, notching nine sacks and 12 tackles for loss along the way.

The 26-year-old has flashed in the pass-rushing phase but has struggled to stay consistently available from his time at Notre Dame through his four years in Detroit. Okwara, the younger brother of former Lions pass rusher Romeo Okwara, has his best season in 2021 when he posted a career-best five sacks and played in a career-high 13 games.

Detroit's first road trip of the season is to face these Cardinals in Week 3 action.
