Motorcyclist killed after losing control, crashing into mailbox in Lake County, troopers say

EUSTIS, Fla. - A motorcyclist was killed Saturday evening after losing control and crashing into a mailbox, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened at State Road 44 and Bottany Woods Drive around 5:03 p.m.

According to a preliminary crash report, a Harley Davidson FXLRS was traveling south on State Road 44, north of Bottany Woods Drive.

The motorcycle driver failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the road to the right before crashing into a concrete mailbox, troopers said.

The motorcyclist, only identified as a man, was taken to AdventHealth DeLand where he was pronounced dead.

Troopers said there is currently roadblock for both directions of travel on State Road 44.

The crash remains under investigation.
