Offerman played Ron Swanson on NBC's sitcom, which ran for seven seasons from 2009 until 2015. Mullally, who's been married to Offerman since 2003, appeared on nine episodes of Parks and Rec as Ron's second ex-wife, dubbed "Tammy II" because Ron's first wife (Patricia Clarkson) was also named Tammy. Tammy II returns several times throughout the series to infuriate Ron, which inevitably leads to seduction.
The couple admitted that their real-life passion for one another spilled over while filming scenes for the eighth episode of season two, "Ron and Tammy," which marked Mullally's debut on the show. "The very first scene that we shot was was so early, like 6:30 in the morning," Mullally recalled. "It was a motel and we were supposed to be like, desperately trying to get to this motel so that we could like get it on," she explained.
Mullally had the idea that her character would take her bra off before arriving at the motel. "So I took my bra off, and they were like, 'action!' So [Offerman] screeches into this parking lot and I throw my bra out the window of the car. We get out of the car, I slam the doors, run in, and I pulled my sweater off. They had to put like a dark circle to blot out my boob. We ran into the motel and then this guy comes over and he's like, 'Hi, I'm Troy [Miller], I'm the director.'"
"Great first take," Offerman interjected. "And they used it!" Mullally added.
Things continued to heat up between couple during the day's next scene, in which they were to have a heated argument in a diner. After filming the scripted lines, the director told Mullally and Offerman to "just do whatever you need to do." The couple took this is an invitation to smooch.
"So we were, like, wildly making out on the table," Mullally said. The scene became so passionate that Offerman, in character, ended up destroying the set. "Nick, at one point, was so like Ron Swanson, so riled up on testosterone, that we were in a booth at this diner and Nick actually pulled the table out of the wall," Mullally marveled. "The real table! He pulled it out of the wall!"
