Pink Floyd Guitarist David Gilmour's New Solo Album, 'Luck and Strange,' Celebrates U.K. Chart Milestone

Gilmour posted a video message on the Official Charts Company YouTube channel in which he acknowledges the album's milestone.

"Hi. I'm David Gilmour," he says in the brief clip. "I'd like to thank everyone who's bought my new album, Luck and Strange, and helped to make it No. 1 in the Official Albums Chart."

Separately, Gilmour posted a note on his social media pages about the achievement.

"Heartfelt thanks to all of you who've supported Luck and Strange," the 79-year-old Rock & Roll Hall of Famer wrote. "I feel very honoured to have another Number One album, and it's great to see from all of the comments and messages that you're enjoying listening to the record as much as we enjoyed making it."

Luck and Strange is Gilmour's fifth solo studio album, and his third consecutive to reach No. 1 in the U.K. His previous two solo album, On an Island and Rattle That Lock, were released in 2006 and 2015, respectively.

According to Billboard, the album amassed 32,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during its first week of release. That total includes 30,000 in album sales and 2,000 in SEA (streaming equivalent album) units.

As previously reported, Gilmour will launch a 2024 tour in support of Luck and Strange later in September. David recently announced that he will play two special, intimate rehearsal gigs at Brighton Centre in Brighton, U.K. on September 20 and 21 before the trek officially gets underway.

The tour kicks off with a six-date engagement in Rome that runs from September 27 through October 3. David then will play six shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London, scheduled from October 9 through October 15.

After that, Gilmour will head to the U.S. He'll play an October 25 show at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, followed by October 29, 30, and 31 concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. David's 2024 itinerary wraps up with five shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City scheduled from November 4 to November 10.

Tickets for Gilmour's concerts can be purchased now via a variety of outlets, including StubHub.
