Alabama and Auburn fans share their treasured football memories

Every September, folks around the state put on their team colors and gather, whether at home or at the stadiums, to cheer on the Alabama Crimson Tide or the Auburn Tigers, and in the process, they create a lot of great memories.

That's why our friends at This is Alabama asked the followers on their Facebook page what their favorite football memories are. Some of the responses were about iconic plays for both teams while others were more about the personal experiences that took place on gameday. Plus, Troy University and UAB got a couple shout-outs too!

You can read some of the replies below, and you can read all of them on the This is Alabama Facebook page. Also, if you'd like to weigh in on their next question -- and potentially see your answer on this site -- be sure to give them a follow.

"Going to Saban's last Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa. It was incredible and my wife surprised me with 40 yard line lower level tickets!" -- Jonathan M. Nix

"Too many to choose, but if I had to pick one, it would be my first Alabama-Tennessee game at Legion Field in 1973." -- Bob Carlton

"2013 Iron Bowl! Eagle flight is always great too!" -- Amanda Bergeron

"My first college football game was Alabama vs. Ole Miss in the Sugar Bowl at old Tulane Field. It snowed six inches the night before the game, and they had to shovel the snow off the field to play. It was the biggest snow in Gulf Coast history." -- Thomas Walls

"Being at the Iron Bowl in Auburn in 1999 when Bama beat them for the first time in Jordan Hare. Shaun Alexander ran all over them in that game! Then followed that up in the dome in Atlanta over Florida, which I also got to witness in person." -- Joshua Brandon Dorrill

"My Dad taking me to an Alabama and Auburn game at Legion Field in Birmingham. I was an early teenager." -- Maureen Sparks

"I was at the 1993 Sugar Bowl when Bama beat Miami for the Natty. Antonio Langham stealing the ball from behind their receiver is still one of the most incredible plays I've ever seen." -- Mark Kimbrough

"Punt Bama Punt. Yes, I am old." -- Nick Nichols

"Van Tiffin's kick is an easy one, but for me, I was at Legion Field when Freddie Kitchens hit Dennis Riddle out of the back field to lead Bama over Auburn. I believe that was Coach Stallings last season." -- Chris Burroughs

"Definitely the Kick Six." -- Cathryn Davis

"The 1985 Iron Bowl with Van Tiffin's 52-yard field goal to win the game for the Tide in the final seconds. I was a kid, watching that game with my dad and his friend, and I will never forget their reactions!" -- Christy Hallman Weems

"The 2010 Iron bowl. The sheer horror on Bama fans as their big lead dwindled away." -- Melvin Burr

"I took my dad to his first and only Bama game back in the '90s at Legion Field. Singer James Taylor was in town, and during pregame the scoreboard said, 'special guest James Taylor.' My dad's name was also James Taylor, so he had me take a photo of it so he could tell the guys at work that he was the special guest at the game." -- Jackie Trehern

"Being in the original Houndstooth, in 1993, as Bama beat Miami in the Sugar Bowl. The Strip was total pandemonium!" -- Jonathan Dill

"Sitting on the couch beside my dad as a kid learning about Alabama football and how to cuss. My mom would chime in and say, "Rudy! The kids!" I love and miss my dad and am so thankful he taught me to love Bama. I remember those cuss words during every game too." -- Janice Crawford
