The Seattle Seahawks are heading into a huge game against the division rival Arizona Cardinals. A win could put them in first place in the NFC West, provided they get a little bit of help from the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday when they host the LA Rams. At this time of year no NFL team is healthy, and the Seahawks are no exception to the rule.
Heading into this week Seattle is particularly thin at tight end and in their return game. Here's a few key takeaways from the first injury report of the week.
Starting tight end Noah Fant was one of nine players who were listed as non-participants at Wednesday's practice. Fant is dealing with a groin injury that knocked him out of last week's game against the San Francisco 49ers. Backup tight end Brady Russell was also listed as a DNP - he's dealing with a foot injury. Last week rookie AJ Barner got the start in Fant's place, but he earned the team's lowest PFF grade on offense.
Both of the Seahawks' kickoff returners are also on the injury report. Laviska Shenault Jr. apparently has a back issue and was also a non-participant. Dee Williams suffered an ankle injury and was a DNP, as well. Kenny McIntosh is the next man up on kickoffs if either of them has to sit out this week.
Not counting the four players who got rest days (including wide receiver Tyler Lockett) the biggest name on the injury report is defensive end Leonard Williams. He also sat out yesterday's practice with a foot injury. Williams was limited last week but wound up playing against the 49ers. We will monitor his status as the week progresses.
