Things to do in the Fox Cities: Pop-up art show, Latino Fest, Alzheimer's walk and Irish Fest

Upcoming events in the Fox Cities range from a pop-up art show of paintings by Ben Erickson, to Latino Fest, showcasing the diversity of the local Hispanic community.

The fourth annual Irish Fest will take place Sept. 13 and 14 in Jones Park, while the Walk to End Alzheimer's will be held Sept. 14 in Neenah.

Future Neenah will host a pop-up art show with Ben Erickson on Sept. 17 and 18 at the Ballroom at The Reserve in Neenah. The show will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 116 S. Commercial St., third floor.

Admission to the show, "Chasing Stars: Faces in Art," is free. The exhibit will feature more than 40 of Erickson's favorite paintings. On Sept. 17, there will be a cash bar and live music.

A Neenah native and Neenah High School alumni, Erickson will show off his portrait collection of famous people he has painted. Over the past 12 years, he has painted more than 150 portraits, some in mixed media incorporating bottle caps, rhinestones, glitter, soda/beer labels and candy wrappers. He has even had his paintings signed by Hall of Fame athletes, Olympic athletes, respected coaches and world-famous comedians.

Some of the people he has painted include Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, Simone Biles, Jerry Seinfeld, Shane Gillis, Odell Beckham, Drew Brees, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Steph Curry, Clayton Kershaw, Aaron Judge, Charles Barkley, Barry Bonds, John Daly, Dwyane Wade, Jordan Love, Christian Yelich, Ryan Braun, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Post Malone and Luke Combs.

Irish Fest of the Fox Cities will take place Sept. 13 and 14 in Appleton's Jones Park, 301 W. Lawrence St. The fourth annual event will honor the legacy of executive director and founder, Matt Miller.

The event begins at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 13 and 10 a.m. Sept. 14.

The festival features headlining acts Eileen Ivers and Skerryvore, along with JigJam, Pat Byrne and many others.

There also will be a cultural area, family activities, vendors and a variety of food and beverages available.

The Alzheimer's Association's Fox Cities Walk to End Alzheimer's will be Sept. 14 at Jewelers Mutual Group, 24 Jewelers Park Drive, Neenah. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., with an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m., followed by the walk at 10 a.m.

Partipants walk to honor loved ones battling the disease as well as those they have lost. During the Promise Garden ceremony, walkers carry a colored flower symoblizing their connection to the disease.

In Wisconsin, more than 110,000 people are living with the disease and serving as unpaid caregivers. In Outagamie County alone, more than 3,900 individuals age 65 and older are living with dementia.

Jeff Levering, a sportscaster covering the Milwaukee Brewers, will be the Honorary Chair for the 2024 Walk to End Alzheimer's supporting all 27 Wisconsin walks.

Casa Hispana will host a Latino Fest celebration, free and open to the community, on Sept. 14. The event will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Pierce Park, 1035 W. Prospect Ave., Appleton.

The day includes live music, dance performances, art demonstrations, and other cultural expressions representing the diversity of the Fox Valley Hispanic/Latinx community. Learn about services from local nonprofits, schools, and businesses.

There will be a variety of food and beverage options to purchase.
