Andy Reid roundup: 4 takeaways from the Chiefs' head coach

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid met with the media via Zoom on Monday -- a little less than 24 hours after the club's last-second win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Now, the attention shifts to the Atlanta Falcons, who play the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.

In his opening statement, Reid said he had reviewed Sunday's tape, emphasizing that the team needs to get rid of turnovers and penalties. Reid liked how the defense played except for some of the big plays it surrendered -- especially on third down. He also complimented Harrison Butker and Dave Toub's special teams unit.

Then Reid took questions, which we have rounded up in four takeaways:

Our John Dixon has more on that here.

Facing three-time Pro Bowl defensive end Trey Hendrickson on Sunday, Suamataia struggled mightily. Pro Football Focus credited the rookie with four pressures allowed, including 2.0 sacks.

"I haven't gone that direction yet as far as the starter or not the starter, but he's obviously got things he needs to work on and get worked out," explained Reid. "Like I said last night, I felt like we needed to take a step back to take a step forward, and whether he's in or out, I still think that was the right thing to do there.

Suamataia was replaced by Wanya Morris in the fourth quarter. Morris would be the expected starter against the Falcons if Reid makes that decision.

"If [Suamataia's] out this week, then it would be the right thing to do with that. We haven't lost confidence in him in that. He was going against a good player, and he's got to learn from it. I think he mentioned that to you. He's got to take it in and get better. I would tell you that with some of our young guys that played last night. They've got to learn from the experiences that they get in these games."

The first pick happened in the first quarter as the quarterback targeted tight end Travis Kelce.

"The first one there was an option route with he and Kelce, and [the way the Bengals] played, we had to really pull up on the option part of it," started Reid. "There was a little confusion between the two of them. We were late with the ball, so that's what happened, but we'll take care of that. I can take care of that part."

Later in the game, Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt made a terrific play one-on-one against rookie wideout Xavier Worthy.

"I thought the guy made a great play," said Reid. "Again, young receiver there, and he'll learn that either he gets it or nobody gets it. But I've got to give that kid credit, too."

Initially, it looked like Harrison Butker might get a record-breaking field goal opportunity right before halftime.

"[I thought about it] for about a second -- and then, [we] got out of that one," said Reid. "I figured, listen, we're getting the ball back the second half. We're receiving. I didn't want to have something there with a block. Sometimes, [with] the low trajectory, and all of a sudden, there's a block that takes place, and it's going the opposite way. We didn't need that at that point."
