As we enter Week 13 of the college football season, many teams that were included in the preseason AP Top 25 were hoping for successful campaigns. However, 11 of those teams are currently not ranked in the College Football Playoff rankings.
One of the teams is the North Carolina State Wolfpack (5-6). On the "Paul Finebaum Show," SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum discussed the strength of schedule for various teams. He noted that some matchups that seemed promising earlier in the season don't look as strong now. As an example, he mentioned the Week 2 game between the then No. 14 Tennessee Volunteers and the No. 24 Wolfpack.
Finebaum stated that the game looked quite good; however, NC State ended up having a "terrible" season.
"Tennessee was playing NC State; that looked like a pretty good game," Finebaum said. "NC State's been a quality team. They were terrible this year."
NC State needs to defeat the North Carolina Tar Heels (6-4) on the road to finish the season to avoid missing a bowl game for the first time since 2019.
A significant factor contributing to the Wolfpack's struggles has been the injury to starting quarterback Grayson McCall. McCall was a highly sought-after transfer portal target before the season began.
He played only four games, completing 66.3% of his passes for 518 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. The Wolfpack had a 2-2 record in those games, but he finished only two of those games this season.
The Wolfpack lost to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 30-29 on Thursday night. They will conclude the season next Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET against the Tar Heels on ACC Network.
