A popular Idaho resort had to close this week. Here's why it's now able to reopen

Tamarack Resort, a popular destination on the western side of Lake Cascade just south of McCall, will resume operations Friday after wildfire activity prompted its closure earlier this week.

Better fire weather on Wednesday helped fire crews around the Lava Fire "mop up and extinguish areas of heat around structures," according to a Lava Fire update on Thursday. Lightning ignited the flames on Sept. 2.

"With heavy rain over the past day and the forecast showing more today, we look forward to resuming operations and welcoming guests back to Tamarack (Friday)," President Scott Turlington said in a statement.

Tamarack had closed its facilities earlier this week because its evacuation status changed from Ready to Set in response to the Lava Fire, which now has merged with the Boulder Fire. The resort said it would remain closed until it was back to a "'Ready' or safe stage." The resort appears to still be in a Set stage, though.

"Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support," the resort said Tuesday in a statement.
