A former five-star wide receiver has received interest from numerous schools now that he's not at Texas.
Wide receiver Johntay Cook is no longer with the program and has already heard from Georgia, Ole Miss, and Oregon.
Cook is one of the best recruits in the 2023 class. He was the sixth-best recruit in his home state (Texas) and the No. 29 overall recruit in the country, per 247Sports composite rankings.
The former top prospect played sparingly during his two seasons with Texas before it was reported that he's no longer part of the program. Cook caught 16 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns during his time in Austin.
Both of his touchdowns came during the 2024 season.
There will likely be more programs that show interest in Cook considering how highly touted of a recruit he was and how he has performed at the collegiate level. He'd be a good piece to add to any program in the country.
Cook will officially enter the transfer portal when it opens on Monday, December 9. After that, teams can start recruiting him (and other players) with NIL.
Even though this is a loss for Texas, it still has all of its goals in front. Texas is 7-1 entering its next game against Florida this Saturday.
If the Longhorns can win out, they'll surely be in the College Football Playoff once the 12-team playoff gets finalized after conference championship weekend.
Kickoff for Texas-Florida will be at Noon ET.
