People are looking to leave San Diego for these 10 cities: Redfin

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Recent data from real estate company Redfin showed that while most San Diegans wanted to stay in the metropolitan area over the summer, there were a few other U.S. cities that garnered their homebuying interests.

Data from June to August showed that 71% of local homebuyers searched for homes within the San Diego metro area, but the other 29% of residents wanted to take their real estate interests elsewhere.

Phoenix, Ariz. was the most popular destination where San Diegans searched for a home outside of San Diego. According to Redfin, more than 500 users showed some interest in relocating there.

Las Vegas, Nev. was next on the list, searched by 455 Redfin users between June and August, followed by Portland, Ore. with 355.

The dataset did not reflect actual moves but rather a sample of about two million Redfin users who searched for homes across more than a hundred metro areas, Redfin stated. An individual must have viewed at least 10 homes in the three-month period to be included in the dataset, which excluded rental searches.

Other cities in the top 10 included Nashville, Tenn., Boise, Idaho, San Antonio, Tex., Hilo, Hawaii, Tampa, Fla., Houston, Tex., and Reno, Nev.

Meanwhile, three percent of homebuyers looked to move into San Diego from other cities from June to August, the data showed.

Most people looking to relocate to the San Diego area were from Los Angeles, followed by San Francisco and New York.
