Comedy musical 'Grumpy Old Men' presents longstanding feud in Fond du Lac Community Theatre show Sept. 26 to 29

FOND DU LAC - A local cast is getting ready to open a heartwarming, catchy and nostalgic show, according to the Fond du Lac Community Theatre.

The theater group will present musical comedy "Grumpy Old Men" Sept. 26 through 29 at Goodrich Little Theater, 72 W. Ninth St.

Based on the 1993 film of the same name, the show follows the lives of John Gustafson and Max Goldman, two curmudgeonly old men in a small Midwestern town who have been at odds with each other for decades, according to Fond du Lac Community Theatre.

While their rivalry has been fueled by petty squabbles and deep-seated grievances, it comes to a head with the arrival of Ariel Truax, a beautiful and spirited newcomer to the town of Wabasha who moves in across the street. The two men compete for her affection, and along the way confront their own vulnerabilities, regrets and the possibility of rekindling an unlikely friendship.

Michael Detert and Matthew Rodenkirch will star as John and Max, respectively. Joe and Sue Kemp will play the local Polka champs, and Gary Sharpe will play Chuck, the owner of the local bait shop.

"Lynn Moon will steal your heart as Ariel, the newcomer to Wabasha, where the community sticks together like glue," co-director Mary Runde said. "We have a fabulous cast who are working hard to welcome you to Wabasha."

Showtimes are 7 p.m. Sept. 26 through 28 and 2 p.m. Sept. 29, and the show will last two and a half hours, with one 15-minute intermission.

Tickets are available in advance online at hometowntickets.com/fdlct or in person at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, 51 Sheboygan St., during regular business hours. Tickets will also be available at the box office one hour before each show for an additional $3 per ticket.
