Sequoyah School's hydrogen racing team has secured top positions in the H2 Grand Prix 2023-2024 season. The team achieved first place nationally and fourth globally, the school announced on social media.

Organized by Horizon Hydrogen (H2) Grand Prix, the competition is billed by the organizers as the largest hydrogen competition worldwide, engaging over 4,000 students on four continents.

Participants design, engineer, and construct 1:10-scale hydrogen-powered radio-controlled cars, which they then race in international four-hour endurance events.

"This season wasn't just about results, but about the commitment to improving and working together as a team," Sequoyah School said on social media.

Addressing the student team members directly, the School said, "The grit and passion you've shown both on and off the track are something to be truly proud of."

Competition is divided into three age categories: Explorer for ages 7-9, Sprint for ages 10-13, and Pro for ages 14-17. Sequoyah's team competed in the most advanced Pro category, which challenges high school students to develop a comprehensive understanding of renewable energy engineering principles.

Team members identified as Amy '24, Alana '24, Harry '24, and Max '26 received special recognition for their contributions.

"We couldn't have done it without you!" the social media post said in praise.

The H2 Grand Prix program aims to inspire future innovators by providing hands-on experience with hydrogen fuel cell technology. Students develop problem-solving skills essential for addressing tomorrow's energy challenges through practical application of scientific and engineering principles.

The 2023-2024 California H2GP season, powered by Toyota Mirai, launched in December 2023 and went through a state final in April. The World Final was held in Anaheim last week.
