What's the Story? Balamory! CBeebies confirms Scottish show will be back for more episodes

The story in Balamory is set to continue, with the Scottish children's TV series being commissioned for more episodes.

With fans of the original series now approaching or beyond their 20th birthdays, CBeebies has decided the time is right to bring back the gentle but whacky series after two decades.

Balamory originally entertained its pre-school audience from 2002 to 2005, following the lives of teacher Miss Hoolie (Julie Wilson Nimmo) and inventor Archie (Miles Jupp), as well as an ensemble of characters around town.

The BBC commissioned four series' and 152 episodes including specials - nearly all of which began with the distinctive theme tune What's the Story in Balamory?

Kate Morton, head of commissioning 0-6 for BBC Children's and Education said: "A whole new generation will discover and enjoy Balamory as we bring families together with this new update for CBeebies.

"It will be a real treat for parents who grew up with the show to now introduce their little ones to the brightly coloured world by getting to know a host of old and new characters together."

Here is what we know.

The BBC has not confirmed when exactly Balamory will be back or if the premise will be.

The Metro has reported it should be set for a comeback in 2026 and that two new series have been commissioned. Filming will be in Scotland but it has not been confirmed if it will still be in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, or elsewhere.

The original run was centred around a nursery school, where Miss Hoolie would teach, and characters would sing songs based on their circumstances.

It has not been stated if favourites Wilson Nimmo, Jupp or Andrew Agnew, who played local cop PC Plum, will return.

CBeebies ran the show from September 2002 to June 2005, drawing in fans for the music, campy acting and gentle themes.

In 2022, the BBC added 25 episodes to iPlayer to mark the show's 20th anniversary.

Wilson Nimmo told the Daily Record: "I seriously think this is bigger than the Oasis reunion.

"It's the craziest and best news ever that Balamory is coming back."
