In Saturday's Division 2 girls' soccer final, senior Amanda Schneider scored three goals as top-seeded Masconomet rolled to a dominant 5-0 victory over No. 2 Duxbury at Worcester State for the program's first title since 1989, and second overall.
Schneider is the sixth player to net three or more goals in an MIAA championship game as Masco (22-0-1) broke through after three consecutive regular season runs.
"We talked about we're not going to get the perfect shot and all of our goals came from when we had a shot, and shot -- not even thought about it," said Schneider.
But her first was a pearl, a bending a 30-yard shot just underneath the crossbar. You couldn't hit a curler any better.
An All-State selection, Schneider (22 goals, 7 assists) tallied on the break late in the first half and drilled home her final tally early in the second half. Committed to Curry College, the three-sport captain and four-year player finished with 58 goals and 83 points.
"She's just a well-rounded, all-around player," said Masconomet coach Alison Lecesse.
Shifted to striker, sophomore stalwart Maddie Blosser upped her season total to 34 goals, tallying the first and fifth goals. Blosser was assisted by her twin sister, Lily, on the first goal. The combination of Blosser and Schneider caused chaos, dynamically stringing together passes in tight areas and creating overloads.
"She picked it up [playing striker] so fast," said Schneider. "Our relationship playing together, we connected so fast."
Schneider and her senior classmates finished their careers with a 74-5-5 record. In eight seasons under Lecesse's tutelage, the Chieftains are a four-time United Soccer Coaches Pinnacle Award recipient, won three consecutive Northeastern Conference championships, and this fall, boasted a ridiculous 101-6 goal differential.
Now the final step.
