No injuries following USU HazMat incident

Firefighters go through a decontamination process during a hazmat incident at Mountain View Tower on the USU campus Thursday night.

The Logan City Fire Department, the Utah State University Police Department and USU's Assistant Fire Marshal responded to what a USU Housing text message - sent to students at Mountain View Tower, where the incident occurred - called a "chemical spill."

Carlos Cruz, a USU student, shared the text messages with The Herald Journal. It read:

"USU HOUSING: Chemical spill. If there is anybody still in Mountain View Tower above the second floor please shelter in place. Chemical spill on first floor being investigated by HazMat Team."

Members of the LCFD were seen entering the building in HazMat suits, though the details of the chemical spill are unclear at this time.

According to USU Assistant Fire Marshal Brandon Stirland, no one was hurt, but he declined further comment.

The Herald Journal will update this story as more information becomes available.
