Ecusta Trail set to open by end of 2024 after nearly 1 year of construction

HENDERSON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) -- The Ecusta Trail will soon be opening to the public in Henderson County after nearly one year of construction.

Paving of the trail is currently on schedule, with the first stretch of the trail ready to go.

But, the trail is still closed as of now, as other stretches are not yet paved and are still active construction sites.

CONSTRUCTION BEGINS ON 19-MILE GREENWAY CONNECTING HENDERSONVILLE AND BREVARD

"We have some retaining walls to build, railings, signage and pavement markings. But, we're certainly getting close. It's a very anticipated project for the folks in the area. It's going to open up a lot of benefits beyond just recreation for the county," said Marcus Jones,Henderson County engineer.

Jones said that if weather permits, all pavement should be laid down in the next several weeks.

The project is still on pace to be finished by the end of 2024.
