Hanover sets target date for hiring new schools superintendent

The Hanover County School Board is hoping to hire a new superintendent by April 2025 with a planned start of July 2025.

The announcement came earlier this week as board members met with Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates, an Illinois recruitment service that specializes in finding ideal candidates for school divisions nationwide.

Board Chair Bob May said at a meeting Wednesday night that the division is committed to making this a transparent process and plans to have several stakeholders weigh in before making a final decision.

The position will be advertised with a proposed salary in the range of $250,000.

Hanover school officials began their search for a new superintendent in July after former Superintendent Michael Gill resigned. In a letter to parents, Gill stated he felt the board would need a different leader headed into the future.

He served as superintendent for nearly 10 years. Former Prince George Superintendent Lisa Pennycuff was appointed to the position as interim.
