Earlier In The Year, An Ancient Greek Temple Dating Back 2,700 Years Was Filled With Gold And Jewels
Ancient Greek temples in the Paestum
Archaeologists couldn't get enough after a team of 50 researchers explored the Greek island of Evia earlier in the year. Similar to the subway, researchers kept finding new precious jewelry, which dates back to 2,700 years ago. The temple dates back to 7th century BC and is near the ancient Temple of Amarysia Artemis. The structures on the inside were very intriguing, which included a horseshoed-shaped altar.
Greece's Ministry of Culture wrote in a statement , "The possibility that some of them predate the temple cannot be ruled out," the statement reads. "The first level of use of the horseshoe altar yielded pottery dating to the end of the 8th century BC."

The statement adds, "Although the investigation of the earliest of these levels has only just begun, the first discoveries suggest that the cult had its roots in the centuries after the end of the Mycenaean period," the statement said.
The research was ongoing despite the finding of all the gold and jewels earlier in the year. There were other sections still to be discovered, along with added interest in finding out more about the temple's landscape.
