Edward Jones, a 55-year-old self-claimed former rapper, appears headed for victory in the election for Forsyth County's Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor.
As of Tuesday at 10:20 p.m., with approximately 62% of ballots counted, Jones is leading with about 79,000 votes, representing roughly 63.49% of the total.
The non-partisan role is one of five on the county's Board of Supervisors, focusing on protecting natural resources and addressing issues such as water quality and soil erosion.
In an October interview with the Journal, Jones noted that he aims to "help with the air and water for farmers and animals." However, he failed to answer questions about his plans and goals for addressing the district's natural resource issues.
Jones, who claims he was in a coma for eight years after being shot 37 times in 2002 during his "gangster life" in New York, is running for the position to "tell the world about God."
The Journal was unable to verify Jones's claims.
If elected, Jones will serve a four-year term for the district.
