A truck driver exited his 18-wheeler before a train crashed into his vehicle on Monday afternoon in north Laredo, according to Union Pacific.
At approximately 4 p.m. Monday, a Union Pacific train collided with an 18-wheeler stopped on the railroad tracks near the intersection of Uniroyal Drive and the frontage road of North Interstate 35.
The driver of the vehicle said he was experiencing mechanical issues. He managed to exit the truck before impact, according to Union Pacific.
A second 18-wheeler was also struck by the first tractor-trailer as it was being dragged by the train. Neither the train crew or the truck drivers were injured, authorities said.
"Union Pacific would like to remind all vehicles to make sure they stop behind the white line at railroad crossings and do not proceed through the crossing until the vehicle in front has cleared," Union Pacific said in a statement.
