Former Bears head coach lands job with Dallas Cowboys

It didn't take long for Matt Eberflus to find a new job.

The former Bears coach, who was fired less than 24 hours after a game-ending coaching blunder against the Lions on Thanksgiving, was named defensive coordinator of the Cowboys on Tuesday, the team announced.

He will work under Brian Schottenheimer, who became the 10th head coach in Dallas history on Jan. 24.

Eberflus, 54, spent seven seasons on Jason Garrett's staff from 2011-2017 as linebackers coach and pass game coordinator.

He took his first defensive coordinator position with the Indianapolis Colts in 2018 where he spent four seasons before the Bears hired him in 2022.

In three seasons with the Bears, Eberflus recorded a 14-32 record as a head coach, but Chicago's defense was strong against the run and in forcing turnovers.

In his seven years as a defensive play caller, Eberflus' defense ranked in the top half of the league five times and were top 10 in takeaways in six of those seven seasons.

Eberflus replaces Mike Zimmer and will inherit a defense led by elite players like defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence, linebacker Micah Parsons and cornerback Trevon Diggs.
