Jennifer Lopez is in London promoting her forthcoming film Unstoppable, but at a photocall on Thursday, November 7, she wore a pristine white coat that paid tribute to her beloved 2002 movie, Maid in Manhattan.
In the Up from the Bronx story, Lopez stars as Marisa Ventura, a -- well -- maid who falls in love with Senatorial candidate Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes). After Marisa innocently "borrows" designer clothes from a wealthy woman staying at the hotel (played by Natasha Richardson), she meets Marshall, who mistakes her for another Manhattan socialite.
There's no question, however, that the real-life look worn by Lopez, 55, was perfectly in line with the "rich mom" aesthetic that is perhaps even more popular today than it was when the movie premiered. Indeed, Lopez's tonal wardrobe took us right back to her character's famous style.
Adding to the authenticity, the entire ensemble was plucked from the Dior Fall 2024 runway. For her part, Lopez layered the clean white coat over a sleek black ribbed turtleneck crafted from luxurious French cashmere.
An elegant reimagination of house codes (and Maid in Manhattan's scene-stealing costumes), the timeless neutrals and impeccable tailoring woven into Lopez's look were reminiscent of the late Christian Dior's legendary "New Look" from his groundbreaking 1947 debut in Paris.
Similar to Maria Grazia Chiuri's Dior Fall 2024 collection, the historic fashion moment represented a return to decorative femininity. Lopez played into this by carrying a quilted Lady Dior bag accented with gold D.I.O.R. charms.
Alongside her Unstoppable castmates Jharrel Jerome, Anthony Robles, Bobby Cannavale and Don Cheadle, Lopez twirled for photographers in a pair of D-Idole patent boots. Covered with buckles and a gleaming sculptural gold heel, they moved her ready-to-wear to a couture-worthy place.
Teamed with a sharp black fedora cocked to one side, the result was, to borrow a phrase from Ben Affleck, "spectacular."
