The Edwardsville fire and police departments extinguished a fire on Devon Court in Edwardsville.
Firefighters responded to a fire to an apartment building in Devon Court that was reported just after 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 13. Flames were shooting through the roof of the building and heavy smoke was pouring out of it about 12:15 p.m.
According to Edwardsville Fire Chief James Whiteford, the fire started on the second floor and spread to the attic. Occupants inside the building helped notify other residents to evacuate the site. The Edwardsville Police Department also helped ensure the building was empty. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters from Glen Carbon, Collinsville and Wood River were also on scene, as well as Troy Ambulance Service and Madison County Rehabilitation Unit.
Esic Drive was closed near the scene.
The Edwardsville Police Department said that University Drive was closed from Devon Court to just past the 1100 block.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause.
