Hartford festival opens Friday

APPLE FESTIVAL: The Hartford Apple Festival will take place Friday to Sunday at the township center, state Routes 7 and 305. The festival will include a parade, car show, live music, entertainment and carnival games. Hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Friday and includes a queen ceremony at 7 p.m. with this the 60th anniversary of the competition. On Saturday is a pet parade at 10 a.m., kids tractor pull at noon and a parade at 6 p.m. On Sunday is a car show 1 to 4 p.m. at Hartford United Methodist Church and an apple pie eating contest at 1 p.m.

WALK EVENT: St. Vincent de Paul Society will host a walk and run fundraiser 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Perkins Park in Warren to raise awareness and funds for those living in poverty. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for students. For information, visit svdpTrumbull.org.

LIBRARY PROGRAMS: Girard Free Library will host Amy Reeher of the Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District 6 p.m. today for a program on foxes. John Moss, owner of Wicked Sweet Honeybee, will speak about beekeeping at 6 p.m. Tuesday. He also is vice president of the Trumbull County Beekeepers Association. He will discuss how to get started with beekeeping and what equipment will be needed. He is wrapping up his seventh season of beekeeping.

BLOCK WATCH TO MEET: The Girard city 2nd and 3ird ward block watches will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Girard Free Library. Guest speaker is Girard police Chief John Norman.

DRUMMING EVENT: The Unity Spiritual Centre , 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, Liberty, will host a fall equinox drumming circle 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. The event, Drums and Yums, will be presented by Dan Susany, a local percussionist, who has been drumming since 1997. You may bring your own drums or drums will be available. The event is free, but donations will be accepted.

INFORMATIONAL PROGRAM: North Mar Church has partnered for a Walk, Run, Bike for "Remember Nhu" at Kent State University at Trumbull. "Remember Nhu" is a nonprofit organization dedicated to safeguarding children from falling into the sex trades and to eliminating child slavery through prevention to help complete projects all around the world The event will have a bike ride at 8 a.m. and a walk and run at 8:30 a.m. To sign up and to register visit https://www.trisignup.com/Race/OH/Warren/RememberNhu.

LOSS OF A PET: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles will host Coping with Pet Loss at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the McKinley Birthplace Home. The program will help people cope with the loss of a pet. The event is hosted by Hospice of the Valley. Registration is required at 330-652-1704, ext. 3.

LIBRARY HELPS: The McKinley Memorial Library in Niles is partnering with Niles Community Services for a hat, mitten and scarf drive to take place through Sept. 28. The library is collecting hats, mittens and scarves of all sizes. All donations must be new and unused. Store bought and handmade items are welcome. Donations may be dropped off at the library or Niles Community Services. The library also has partnered with Youngstown Blue Coats to collect winter coats through Sept. 28. New and used coats and sleeping bags are being collected to help the homeless.
