WAYNESVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) -- A Waynesville business has a unique way to mark Helene and honor first responders.
Bear Creek Supply is making T-shirts and Christmas ornaments with a hurricane design and a positive message: "Helene tried to tear us apart. She brought us together instead."
The business is donating a portion of the sales of T-shirts, sweatshirts and ornaments to those who were first on the scene to offer emergency help during the storm and help in the aftermath.
NEW FUND TO HELP HAYWOOD COUNTY SMALL BUSINESSES IMPACTED BY HELENE
"It's done pretty well selling online and locally, and we've been able to donate directly to one of the food trucks that was feeding people for free, and one of the fire rescues where their building was flooded to help with the cleanup, to Haywood Search and Rescue," said owner Tim Stevens.
He says everything is produced locally with all donations fully transparent. He encourages avoiding fake social media scams and buying local.
Bear Creek Supply is also veteran-owned, and Stevens previously worked with 911 for the Haywood County Sheriff's Office.
