It will be warmer across the region on Friday before bitterly cold temperatures return early next week.

Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Britley Ritz is TRACKING this warm-up. She has the latest TIMING and IMPACTS of a possible wintry mix ahead of these bitter cold temperatures this morning on News Center 7 Daybreak starting at 4:25 a.m.

For the first time in 12 days, the region will have enough warmth to put a dent in the snowpack.
Ritz says we will have sunny skies with highs in the upper 30s today. It will also be breezy as gusts top out around 20-25 m.p.h.
The next chance for precipitation comes during the overnight hours. Rain will arrive, possibly mixed with snow, according to Ritz.
We will see mostly rain on Saturday, but it could mix with some wet snowflakes especially north of Interstate 70.
Ritz says any accumulation will be light on Saturday. It is generally an inch or less mainly north of I-70.
The extremely cold air returns on Sunday as an Arctic airflow will reduce temperatures into the mid-to-upper teens Sunday morning, Ritz states.
We will see even colder temperatures early next week.
