Jeremiah Smith breaks Cris Carter's Ohio State football TD record

Jeremiah Smith has written himself into the Ohio State history book with his performance against Purdue football.

In the final minute of the first half, Smith ran a crossing route and caught a pass from quarterback Will Howard in stride. Running left to right, Smith took the pass, turned upfield and sprinted his way into the right corner of the end zone with 27 seconds to play.

It was a 17-yard touchdown pass and Smith's sixth of the half, giving him 87 yards and one touchdown.

With his ninth touchdown catch of the season, Smith has now broken former Buckeyes wide receiver Cris Carter's record for most receiving touchdowns by an Ohio State true freshman. Earlier in the game, Smith also passed Carter's record for most catches for an Ohio State freshman.

The 6-foot-3 wide receiver recorded a receiving touchdown in each of Ohio State's seven games this season, but his streak was broken last week in a 20-13 win over Penn State.
