Adam Schefter makes a living by informing the public, but he gave everyone more information than necessary about an insider's life.
During an interview on This is Football, Kevin Clark asked his ESPN colleague to reveal the "weirdest place" he's ever broken a story. Schefter nervously chuckled, seemingly deliberating whether to disclose the anecdote in mind. He probably shouldn't have.
Schefter recalled that he "just spent time with this woman" before receiving a text that former cornerback Dale Carter was getting suspended for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Carter served a suspension for the entire 2000 season, but Schefter could be referring to a second ban in 2002.
"As I continue to lay there, [I] confirm it and got the job done, Kevin," Schefter told Clark. "In every which way."
Most people wish they hadn't just learned that personal story about Schefter.
"We know *far* too much about each other," Pro Football Talk's Myles Simmons said.
"Yes I looked up when Dale Carter was suspended and when Adam Schefter got married, just in case," FTN's Fantasy Daniel Kelley said. "He's clear!"
"Alright that's enough internet for today," Michael Grey concluded.
"Puts a different spin on being an insider," ESPN's Chris Canty quipped.
On Wednesday, Schefter corrected a TMZ headline that claimed he broke a story during intercourse. Not even he's that skilled a multi-tasker; the 57-year-old clarified that he reported the suspension after.
When Adrian Wojnarowski left journalism, Schefter explained that he'd showered and urinated with his phone out in fear of missing a scoop. He'll often check his phone during an interview and even leave mid-sentence if he has news to break.
One would think he's eventually drawn a line somewhere to preserve some semblance of a life beyond work. Perhaps he altered his policy on breaking news in bed since this case.
