Sunnyside prepares for Saturday's lighted farm implement parade

The city of Sunnyside is gearing up for Saturday's lighted farm implement parade.

The parade starts at 6:30 p.m. and will head west on Edison Avenue, past City Hall and through downtown. The implements will veer off on Zillah Avenue north toward Yakima Valley Highway, according to a city news release.

Sunnyside City Manager Mike Gonzalez said thousands of people are expected to attend and the police department will bring in extra officers.

"We are encouraging folks to get here early because traffic is going to be robust," he said in a news release. "We're also asking drivers to be patient because our city essentially triples in size on this day."

Parade participants will stage at the corner of Edison Avenue and Barnard Boulevard beginning around 3 p.m., with judging at 4 p.m.

Mid-Day Rotary helps organize the event with support from the city.
