The Principal and Deputy Chiefs of the Cherokee Nation are proposing a permanent reauthorization of the tribe's Housing, Jobs and Sustainable Communities Act.

The act was originally passed in 2019 and amended in 2022 to give $60 million to build new homes.

Since then the tribe says it has built 363 new homes with more being planned.

Under the proposed reauthorization, the tribe would spend up to $40 million in three-year cycles for housing and building needs.

The legislation will go before the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council's Rules Committee on Sept. 26th.

If approved there, it would go to the full council that same day.
