Richmond opens new 'Sprout School' for infants, toddlers and preschoolers

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney held a grand opening ceremony for Richmond's newest Sprout School on Thursday, celebrating the launch of this facility aimed at providing infants, toddlers and preschoolers with early childhood education.

This new Sprout School, located at 1620 Williamsburg Rd. in the city's Fulton neighborhood, is the fourth such school added to Richmond since 2021, according to a press release from Stoney's office. It is the fifth Sprout School in Richmond overall.

With this new addition, over 300 new slots will be opened for children between the ages of 2 months and 5 years old. Kids enrolled at the Sprout School will be provided "full-day, high-quality early childhood education," according to Stoney's office.

Fulton's new Sprout School resides in the building that once was the Fulton Montessori School. After renovations that brought the facility up to licensing standards, the former Fulton Montessori School Board transferred the program to the YWCA Sprout School.

Here's a list of other four Sprout Schools found in Richmond:

Sprout Schools are city-sponsored and their openings are made possible through a partnership with YWCA of Richmond.
