Courtney McDaniel was a one-of-a-kind talent during her days as an athlete at Tennessee High and it was only fitting that she was in the first class of inductees to the Bristol Tennessee City Schools Athletic Hall of Fame. The ceremony was held on Sunday inside Viking Hall.

McDaniel scored 2,722 points during her four seasons playing basketball for THS and was also a track and field star who finished second in the state in the discus as a senior in 2000.

"I am deeply honored and incredibly grateful to be included in the inaugural class of the Tennessee High School Hall of Fame," McDaniel said. "It's a true privilege to be recognized alongside such extraordinary athletes, many of whom have been an inspiration to me throughout the years. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the steering committee for bringing this wonderful event together and for honoring so many talented individuals."

McDaniel later played for legendary hoops coach Pat Summitt with the University of Tennessee Lady Vols and was on a NCAA national runner-up squad as she scored against Connecticut in the 2003 title-game loss. She also played professionally overseas and has coached at both the prep and collegiate levels.

"I am thankful to God, my parents and family, friends, teachers, coaches and teammates for their unwavering support throughout my career," McDaniel said. "It fills me with pride to call myself a Viking."
