Houston likely will be aggressive in free agency, but an internal superstar's future is very much in question. Star third baseman Alex Bregman has been with the team over the last nine years and has developed into one of the best players in team history.
Bregman helped lead the team to two World Series titles and now is a free agent. Will he return to Houston? It's really up in the air. A handful of teams already have been linked to him, but the Astros certainly haven't been ruled out.
Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter put together a list of predicted Opening Day lineups for each club and predicted that Bregman will end up re-signing.
"A reunion with the Astros still feels the most likely outcome for Alex Bregman's free agency, even with Kyle Tucker and Framber Valdez both poised to hit the open market following the 2025 season." Reuter said. "Jon Singleton held his own stepping into the starting first base job after José Abreu was demoted, posting a 103 OPS+ with 13 home runs and 42 RBI in 119 games.
"With club control through 2028, he could be the guy once again, but there are plenty of potential upgrades available this winter."
Bregman is projected to land a four-year, $119 million deal by Spotrac. With high competition expected, it wouldn't be shocking for that number to climb. He is just 30 years old. It makes sense for the Astros to keep one of their franchise pillars around.
