STATHS, Wolmer's advance in Walker Cup

St Andrew Technical High (STATHS) and Wolmer's Boys' both recorded 2-1 wins in their ISSA Walker Cup KO quarter-final yesterday, eliminating Campion College and Tivoli Gardens High, respectively.

The fixtures were played as a doubleheader at Stadium East, and Campion opened the scoring in the first half through Tyler Falconer in the 40th minute.

They would hold the advantage leading up to the final 10 minutes, but could not hold off the rampaging STATHS attacks as Dwayne Atkinson pulled his team level with a volley through a crowded penalty box.

Ajetai Marshall topped off the win minutes from the full-time whistle as he dribbled past three opponents to finish expertly to the right of the stunned goalkeeper.

The second game of the evening would be a renewal of a first round Manning Cup rivalry as Wolmer's and Tivoli faced off for the third time this season.

Both teams had scored one win against each other leading up to the match.

Wolmer's Boys' Addon Daye opened the scoring with a well-struck effort from outside the box in the 25th minute, before completing his brace just before halftime, heading home from inside the box to double the lead.

Tivoli would attempt a comeback in the second half, Ryan-O'Neil Francis' 60th-minute goal was just not enough.

STATHS will move on to face Mona for a spot in the final, while Wolmer's will contest their semi-final fixture against Excelsior.

Both games are set for a November 28 doubleheader at Stadium East.
