DECATUR - Time is limited to get your shopping done at Big Lots department store, located at 1383 E. Pershing Road, Decatur.

The store management announced the store's closing last month with a note and banners taped on the entrance door and windows. Signs advertising the various discounts began appearing a short time later.

Holiday merchandise continues to arrive and placed on display.

According to the employees, the local Big Lots will remain open until the end of the year.

Preparation for Trees on the Tees underway

Tickets for Trees on the Tees go on sale beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7.

Big Lots filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September. The Columbus, Ohio-based company sold its assets and ongoing business operations to private equity firm Nexus Capital Management.

The closing of the Champaign store was announced shortly after the company filed for bankruptcy. Approximately 500 stores have closed or are expected to close by the end of the year.
