Soft-ripened cheeses recalled for potential listeria contamination

WASHINGTON (TNND) -- A cheese company has issued a voluntary recall for potential listeria contamination, the Food and Drug Administration said.

Savencia Cheese USA is recalling soft-ripened cheeses manufactured in their Lena facility.

The company said the cheese could potentially be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The following producers are affected by the recall and are sold under brand names like Aldi andLa Bonne Vie.

You can identify the potentially contaminated products by checking the UPC and the best buy date on the product labels.

The company said the products had "limited regional distribution in the United States."

Customers with the recalled cheeses should return them to where they bought them for a full refund. They should also avoid eating the products.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of these products at this time.

Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
